"So yeah, that slim PS3 everyone knew we were putting out, but we kept denying over and over, yeah, we're putting it out. That price drop everyone said we had to do, that we said would never happen, we're doing that too. Surprise!"

The smaller 45nm processor is cheaper to make over the 65nm one, and it is supposed to be faster, although IBM wouldn't comment on its clock speed.

I wonder if the new PS3 still only has access to 6 SPUs and 1 PPU in the cell processor. The cell processor actually has 8 SPUs, but the PS3 only allows access to 6 of those 8 SPUs, in-case one SPU was a manufacture defect they wouldn't have to throw out the processor, and as for the other SPU you can't access it, they say that it is reserved for the System's OS use only, but why would the OS need to use it while you're playing a game? It would be interesting to see more cores in it, games that were coded correctly for parallel (although optimizing code correctly for parallel is very difficult and time consuming, trust me I had to do it before) would run slightly faster as long as the communication between each core wasn't already maxed at the 25Gbps bandwidth.

Also, there is no logical business reasoning to not release a cheaper and smaller PS3 that is cheaper to make over the larger one.

Damn, according to the cnet review, the new PS3 lost the capability to install another OS on it.

I was commenting on the fact that Sony PR has been bullshitting about this not being true for the last 4-6 months, despite every piece of evidence being to the contrary. It annoys me when companies lie through their teeth, and then expect fanfare when they do the actual announcement. That doesn't mean it's not a good idea, or that people shouldn't buy the new model. It's a much better deal, but it still annoys me.

Why do some people feel the need to make everything related to consoles a console wars issue?

MS pretty much fixed the failure issue in newer XBox's anyway. Not to mention that poll is dubious at best. It's an internet poll.

I have an XBox and a PS3 and I'm happy with both for different reasons.

Ironically, my PS3 went up. But my XBox has not.

Sony had me back up and running within a week though!

I'm probably going to pick the slim up. What games do you all recommend for the PS3?

Street Fighter 4 is excellent on it. I also have Assassin's Creed on it. I hear Prototype and inFamous are fun to play, but I haven't picked them up yet.

Resistance is pretty good. I played it co-op with my gf and we finished it rather quick. So we got Resistance 2 and they totally changed the game play and didn't allow co-op campaign anymore so I haven't played that much.

I picked up Little Big Planet. Pretty cool although I have not played it much.

Batman Arkhum Asylum is a great game.

Batman Legos is a blast with my son. My wife likes to play it too.

That's all I have for now.
